Blood Curse
5th-level Necromancy
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: unlimited
Components: V, S, M (a vial of the target’s blood, which must be free from contamination or debris)
Duration: 30 days
Classes: Cleric, Warlock, Wizard You place a magical curse on a creature whose blood you are in possession of. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or become cursed by you for the duration. If the target’s blood was harvested within the last week, the target suffers a -10 penalty to this saving throw. If the target’s blood was harvested within the last 24 hours, the target automatically fails the saving throw.
When you cast this spell, choose the nature of the curse from the following options.
- While cursed, the target and its allies must make all random encounter rolls with disadvantage (they roll twice on the random encounter table and take the less favorable option, as determined by the GM).
- While cursed, the target takes 4d6 necrotic damage each time it engages in an activity you specify when you cast the spell, but no more than once each day.
- While cursed, casting the scrying spell on the target does not consume a spell slot.
- While cursed, casting the dream spell on the target does not consume a spell slot.
- While cursed, if the target is killed, it is immediately resurrected with 1 hit point, and a loved one dies instead.
- While cursed, a fiend with a CR of 5 or lower becomes obsessed with the target, working tirelessly to bring about its destruction.
The curse lasts for 30 days, until the vial of blood is destroyed or contaminated, or until the cursed creature is targeted by a remove curse spell.
At Higher Levels. If you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the duration is a year and a day. If you use a 9th level spell slot, the spell lasts until it is dispelled.
