This 8-inch long spike was once driven through the hand or foot of Jesus as he was crucified on the cross. What was once only a simple nail was then elevated to one of the Arma Christi, or “Weapons of Christ.” Although they may not have been weapons in the traditional sense, the tools used to crucify Jesus became symbols of triumph over sin and death, and feared weapons of legendary power to the forces of darkness. It is unclear whether there are 3 or 4 Holy Nails in existence (depending on the style of crucifixion), but finding even one of these legendary relics is more than most adventurers achieve in a lifetime.

Once attuned to this item, it functions as a “dagger” when wielded against evil-aligned creatures. You gain a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls with this magic weapon. Additionally, if you hit a creature with an attack from the Holy Nail on the same turn that it is reduced to 0 hit points, the creature’s essence is permanently bound to the Realm of Hell, and it cannot be returned to life in any other Realm of existence by any means. This even suppresses any features in the creature’s stat block that would ordinarily allow it to be returned to life, such as the “Undying” or “Rejuvenation” features.
