Naphtha Grenade

Ammunition, uncommon Market Price: 100 gp (1 talent for 8 grenades)

Using the same concoction of incendiary chemicals as the Naphtha Bomb (see above), the Naphtha grenade is a smaller, handheld version of the same design. This clay vessel, roughly the size and shape as a pomegranate, is just as destructive, but a fraction of the size. Grenades were favored by the elite ships in the Roman navy, who would lob them onto the decks of enemy ships after ramming them.

Using a Naphtha Grenade. You throw a grenade to a point you can see within 60 feet, where it explodes in a 10-foot-radius sphere. Each target within this area must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d6 fire damage on a failed saving throw, or half as much on a success. The fire spreads around corners and along the surface of any bodies of water, igniting flammable objects that are not being worn or carried. Such objects begin burning, as described on page 28.

Oops. Naphtha grenades are small, clay vessels, which are designed to shatter on impact. If a creature takes any amount of bludgeoning damage while it has a Naphtha grenade in its inventory, it must immediately roll a d6. On a 5-6, nothing happens. On a 1-4, the Naphtha grenade explodes as described above, centered on the creature carrying it.
